Moduretic is a diuretic combination, which is also known as a water pill. Diuretics increase the amount of urine passed, which causes the body to lose water and salt.
Moduretic is used to treat high blood pressure or water retention and swelling caused by conditions such as heart, kidney, and liver disease.
Amiloride, one of the ingredients, helps minimize the potassium loss that can be caused by the other component, Hydrochlorothiazide.
|Drug Mechanism: How does Moduretic work?|
Moduretic contains two active ingredients, Amiloride hydrochloride and Hydrochlorothiazide. These are both medicines called diuretics (sometimes referred to as ‘water tablets ).
Diuretics work by causing the kidneys to increase the amount of salts such as potassium and sodium that are filtered out of the blood and into the urine. When these salts are filtered out of the blood by the kidneys, water is also drawn alongside. As diuretics increase the removal of salts from the blood, they also cause more water to be drawn

Take Moduretic tablets by mouth. Swallow the capsules or tablets with a drink of water. Take Moduretic with food.
Remember that you will need to pass urine frequently after taking Moduretic . Do not take your doses at a time of day that will cause you problems. Do not take at bedtime.
