|Drug class: What is Nizoral and why is it prescribed?|
| Nizoral Cream 2% - 15gm tube, a broad-spectrum antifungal drug, may be used to treat several fungal infections within the body, including oral thrush and candidiasis. Ketoconazole is also used to treat skin infections such as jock itch, athlete &cotes s foot, and ringworm; and fungal infections of the fingernails, toenails, lungs, vagina, and blood.
Nizoral may also be given to treat severe, hard-to-treat fungal skin infections that have not cleared up after treatment with creams or ointments, or the

| Ketoconazole is an antifungal medication.
Fungi are organisms normally found on the skin and in moist areas of the body. When the skin is injured or chronically moistened, or normal bacteria flora of the body are altered due to prolonged antibiotic treatment, fungus can proliferate to cause inflammation of the skin or moist body areas. Fungus organisms can also infect the lungs and other body tissues especially in patients with weakened immune systems.
Ketoconazole causes leakiness in the fungal cell that causes its death.
|Dosage: How should you take Nizoral?|
| Take Nizoral exactly as prescribed.
You should keep using Nizoral until tests show that your fungal infection has subsided. If you stop too soon, the infection might return.
You may want to take Nizoral Tablets with meals to avoid stomach upset.
Avoid alcohol and do not take with antacids. If antacids are necessary, you should wait 2 to 3 hours before taking them.
The recommended starting dose of Nizoral is a single daily dose of 200
